Minutes of Chapter Meeting

  • December 14, 2004 Meeting at Lane Aviation, 5:30

    Opening:
Louie opened the meeting with a welcome to everyone and congratulations for a fine dinner. He introduced Mark Brown, engineer, astronaut and friend of Dr. Kathy Sullivan. Mark's introduction painted an image of a determined young woman who has never lost sight of curiosity, determination, dedication to education and concern for the future of our society and for our children.

    Presentation:
Dr. Sullivan began with a fascinating overview of how she started as an astronaut. She gave us her view of "vision" or "fantasy" with a picture of what the future could hold as presented in the 1950s. The interesting point was that it is still possible, but not yet reality. It is this kind of vision that she feels needs to be nurtured in our young people, the leaders of tomorrow. She believes our nation's commitment should rise to level of knowledge and education that assures our position of leadership in the world.

Dr. Sullivan entertained everyone with slides and personal impressions of the experience of walking space. She is the right person to be inspiring our children and leaders to look to the future. She emphasized the importance of science, determination, ambition, etc. and encouraging young people to strive for excellence. Her vision 50 years from now sees China and India as major factors in scientific and economical development. She begged that we all help in making the opportunities of the future a reality for future generations.

A question and answer session followed with great participation. The Central Ohio Professional Aviation Maintenance Association presented Dr. Sullivan and COSI with a check to assist in her work. Your assistance is encouraged.

Tonight's meeting was co-sponsored by Gulfstream, Raytheon, Million Air, Elliott Aviation, Duncan Aviation and Garrett/Electrosonics and supported by members and raffle sponsors. Louie did a fine job of introducing the speakers and reminding us of the opportunity we have to support our community and the future education of our children through COSI.

Finally, REMEMBER, the January meeting is an opportunity to start the year out right with training, fellowship and opportunity to serve our industry with participation.

Yours in professional aircraft maintenance, Cliff Kelling, Secretary
