Minutes of Chapter Meeting

  • January 11, 2005 Meeting at Lane Aviation, 5:30

    Opening:
Louie opened the meeting with a welcome to everyone and announcements about the Michigan Chapter's Olympics. He advised that the golf outing this year would be in September, and volunteers to serve on committees would be important this year and greatly appreciated. Jeff Gruber invited everyone to consider assisting with this year's Science Fair on March 19th. Gene Sprang presented this month's Scholarship Awards--check the web-page for a picture and names. Also, we welcomed 55 members and guests to the meeting. We look forward to seeing you in February.

    Presentation:
The meeting was sponsored by Duncan Aviation-BTL and hosted and supported by Lane Aviation and a host of other members of the aviation industry. Terry Michmerhuizen Certification Engineer and Manufacturing DAR provided an interesting and entertaining introduction to the Federal Aviation Regulations, alteration of aircraft and documentation and record keeping. Terry recognized the great turn-out of our members and proceeded to present an excellent review of common regulations and forms. He used a very simplified approach to the critical nature of complete and accurate aircraft records.

Also, Terry presented a compact and highly effective review of Flammability Testing! He reviewed the regulatory requirements and flammability testing specifications. Also reviewed was Buildup testing, Ash Trays, Trash Compartments, Insulation and other flammability related regulations. Finally, Terry provided a "Compliance Countdown" of deadline dates.

Overall, an excellent presentation for mechanics, pilots, owners and students. We surely must invite Duncan Aviation and Terry back again! A question and answer session followed with great participation.

The Central Ohio Professional Aviation Maintenance Association wishes to thank the many raffle sponsors for their contributions and members for participating in these worthy meetings.

Finally, REMEMBER, to mark your calendar for the February 8th meeting sponsored by Montreal Jet Center.

Yours in professional aircraft maintenance, Cliff Kelling, Secretary
