Opening:
Louie Fura opened the meeting by introducing Mike Lotzer,
with RAPCO, sponsor of tonight's meeting, our raffle sponsors, Gene
Sprang, Jeff Gruber, Jan Anderson and Dr. Bateman with Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University and Brian Finnegan, President of the
National Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA).
Announcements:
Jeff Gruber reminded everyone of the COPAMA 2nd Annual Golf Scramble
set for Friday, June 18, 2004 at Kyber Run Golf Course near Johnstown, Ohio.
Registration is slow and encouraged everyone to talk to people and

Time is running out. Register soon!
Some members have expressed a desire to have a list published of
everyone's name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Others
have expressly stated that they do not want this. Therefore, at the meeting we
asked that you assist in this matter by
responding to a survey and waiver to release such information.
Response by a total of 43 members signing in at the meeting revealed
that 58% agreed to have their personal data made available; Some
members did not respond (35%) for one reason or another, and 7% said
no. This is sufficient to warrant further discussion on the matter. You
can also advise Cliff Kelling via e-mail as well. The Board
will take this topic up later.
Roger Olsen is encouraging everyone to get involved in and support
the FAA's safety program. This looks like it will soon be a fine
source of information for all mechanics and pilots. Check out and

Gene Sprang Announced to everyone how proud we
are of Tom Thibault for his selection to speak to the graduating
class and guests at the Columbus State Community College Spring
graduation. This is not only an honor, but a privilege to represent
the aviation industry. Nice job Tom!
Dr. Bateman and Jan Anderson with Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University provided information encouraging maintenance
technicians to consider the value of advanced college degrees. Dr.
Bateman presented convincing information on management, knowledge,
promotion, writing, safety and other topics of value to the aviation
industry and aircraft maintenance technicians. See ERAU's web-link

Mr. Brian Finnegan, president of the national
PAMA (Professional Aviation Maintenance Association) graciously
attended our meeting this month to respond to questions and concerns
of this chapter. All members can be proud and grateful to the
members who participated. It appears that we may have had an impact
on the national organization's policies. This is what every
technician in the country needs; national participation. Brian
recognized Louie, Jeff and Dale Forton for their efforts in the
success of this chapter. Brian made a special point of recognizing
the tremendous and faithful participation of founding member Glen
McCauley. We're grateful to have Glen with us.
Brian spoke of the enormous participation the
national organization has in important federal hearings and
committees that have an impact on each and every one of us. He
emphasized the importance of a national representation; "An
organization too important to loose!"
Brian presented a "Professional view of
what and who we are". He presented a formula for growing the
membership, revenue and strength of the national and local
organizations. A lively discussion followed his presentation. He
tried to present a positive approach to the importance of a national
presence and representation of AMTs. There was discussion, and
possible conciliation on the matter of PAMA dues. This is an ongoing
matter and should not be discussed here. We encourage you to attend
all upcoming meetings and be a part of these historical changes.
Presentation:
The evening's presentation was by Mike Lotzer, with RAPCO on
Prop De-ice and Vacuum Pump Maintenance and Care. We thank Mike for
sponsoring a great evening of friendship, professionalism, and
training. He reviewed FAA/PMA approval of replacement parts and
installation approval. Also, propeller de-ice, identification,
troubleshooting, inspection and maintenance. The presentation was a
great review of vacuum pump wear, inspection and maintenance. This
was summed up with an excellent explanation of mechanic privileges
and limitations related to vacuum pump maintenance.
