Report on May 10, 2005 Meeting at Lane Aviation,
5:30
Greetings
everyone!
Opening:
Lowell Dowler opened the meeting with
recognition of all our sponsors and students who were attending from
Columbus State. Jeff Gruber updated us on the progress of this
year’s golf outing. Lowell talked about Louie’s work situation
and how much we all appreciate what Louie has contributed to the
success of PAMA in the Ohio area. He also recognized our scholarship
efforts and our corporate sponsors; Snapon, Dallas Airmotive, Bizjet,
ASCO, Tritex, Raytheon, Lane Aviation and other.
Presentation:
We would first like to thank John Trull with Dallas Airmotive for
sponsoring a fine evening with Brian Harrington.
We appreciate Brian’s opening remarks in
thanking the membership for its effort and support of PAMA, and for
an excellent presentation on the TFE731 engine.
He covered the topic of the reliability
the engine has enjoyed and a discussion of some of the following
subjects;
Brian provided an update on carbon and ceramic
seals, oil system refinements, disk separations, altitude/descent
flameouts and information on software and lean-out problems.
He also gave everyone a fine, comprehensive
look at the “DEEC” control, voltage output and use of the
‘break-out’ box. Finally, Brian’s presentation wrapped up with
a flurry of information on air/oil separators, fan bypass stator
vanes, turbine blade failures, nick issues, ITT probes, fan shrouds
and planetary gearshaft separation, troubleshooting and computerized
diagnostic tools and the “Spotlight” program.
Overall, it appears that Brian Harrington
provided the COPAMA membership one of the most enlightening and
comprehensive presentations we have seen in a long time. It will be
our pleasure to have him back again!
Other news:
Remember, June 14, 2005 will be our last meeting before
the summer break. The dinner and meeting is sponsored by CRS Jet
Spares; Presentation by Safetech-Pressurized Cylinder Inspection and
Regulations. Announcement: Jean Richardson, working with Wes Hines
at Knox County Airport reports that she completed her written exams
for A&P Certification. I must admit folks, that I have a
particular admiration for this lady—she is acquiring her
experience and certification much the same way I did. It wasn’t
easy! Let’s all give her our support through the practical exams.
The golf outing is being planned for September—more information on
that soon. And Terry Huff, Jeff Gruber, Gene Sprang; keep up the
good work with the students.
Yours in professional aircraft maintenance, Cliff
Kelling, Secretary
