Minutes of Chapter Meeting
Feb. 10, 2004 Meeting at Lane Aviation, 5:30p.m.
Opening Announcements: Louie advised that we are working on the 2nd Annual Golf Outing, and volunteers will be needed and welcome—more to come on that subject soon.
He also expressed our gratitude to Lane Aviation for their generosity and hospitality in providing the chapter with a place to meet. Also, be advised that the chapter’s web site has changed and will be updated in a new format soon.
The attendance was approximately 69 people! Hooray! Unfortunately, there was barely enough food for everyone this time. We thank each and every one of you who made an effort to advise us of your intent to attend, but a little better count will help. The next meeting will be on March 9, 2004, and the topic will be “Pre-buy Inspections” by Duncan Aviation. If you can, please try to respond by email to Cliff Kelling at ckelling@cscc.edu (Just click on this link and advise how many will be attending). Thanks.
Speakers: Chuck O’Connor, Vice President of Exhibit Operations at COSI in Columbus, Ohio presented information helpful to voters related to “Issue 27”. This is a ballot initiative for Franklin County voters to approve a .5 mill levy in support of a “FREE COSI”. We thank Mr. O’Connor for his timely comments on the effect of improved education for children and needy adults. For more information on how this may strengthen our community point your browser to http://www.citizensforafreecosi.com.
Mr. Allen Franks presented information on a motor coach trip, sponsored by the “Oldetimers” of the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing, a raid on Washington. It sounds like it could be fun. For more information, call Allen Franks 614-866-8143, 1415 Lonsdale Rd., Columbus, OH 43232, or email cindy0062@msn.com.
Gene Sprang reminded everyone about the upcoming 13th Annual Ohio Aviation Maintenance Symposium, March 17th & 18th, 2004 at Columbus State Community College, 5355 Alkire Road, Columbus, OH 43228. To register, send e-mail to mbrown02@cscc.edu, subject, Symposium. Include name, address and dates of attendance.
The feature presentation was “Composite Repairs” by Mr. Brian Hudelson with Crucial Air. This was an excellent presentation on different types of materials, how they are different from the automotive and nautical industries and characteristics that are vital to safe aircraft construction. Throughout the presentation and afterward during a period of open discussion, safety was stressed regarding the handling of materials, resins and critical processes. An excellent presentation indeed! For further information you may want to contact Crucial Air at: Office 614-338-1277, FAX 614-338-0575 or Brian at bhudelson@crucialair.com. Address: 664 North James Road, Columbus, OH 43219.
A BIG THANKS goes to these generous sponsors of the raffle and support for the scholarship fund and chapter activities. Spirit Aviation, Lane Aviation, PAMA National, Mid-Coast, Gulfstream, TriTex, ASCO, API, Ratheon and GE, and of course, to the members who participated with your contributions!
Finally, we would like to welcome aboard four new members to the chapter; Jeremy Sims, Thomas Shaeffer II, Andrew Edwards and Wm “Nick” Wills.
Yours in safe aircraft maintenance, Cliff Kelling, Secretary
