On September 16th, the P-51, Galloping Ghost, met a tragic end as it crashed into the crowd during a race at this year's Reno Air Races. Some think that the aircraft was an old "has-been", pieced together and poorly constructed. Final Approach of an Eagle-Owl in Slow Motion Video
Since the beginning of time, man has been fascinated by the flight of birds. They marveled at and tried to replicate their ability to defeat gravity and were an inspiration to the Wright Brothers that finally achieved manned controllable flight. We have the advantage of slow motion photography to show the intricate coordination of control surfaces used by this Eagle Owl as it approaches a landing to capture prey.

Pratt & Whitney R4360-20 first start after Overhaul on Video
The 4360 powered the B-50, successor to the B-29 and later the B-36, to name a few. And although reliable in flight, the Wasp Major was maintenance-intensive. Improper starting technique could foul all 56 spark plugs, which would require hours to clean or replace. As with most piston aircraft engines of the era, the time between overhauls of the Wasp Major was about 600 hours when used in commercial service.
